Workstream Title
AWaRe1 β WS2 Education
Planned Study Period
April 2025 β March 2027
Research Aims
Primary outcomes
- To design an AWaRe based intervention package including a clinical decision support tool, patient information tools and a training programme to support antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) based on the Practical Approach to Care Kit (PACK) approach and aligned to the WHO AWaRe Book.
- To localise the AWaRe package to match the policies and resources, AMS issues, and primary healthcare needs in each participating country.
Secondary outcomes
At the end of the trial, to review and refine the package to be generalisable to other LMICs
The initial phase of developing the AWaRe based intervention package will be conducted by the core PACK team in collaboration with the AWaRe1 co-applicants. We will identify the local site leads in each country and the site team to conduct the process of localisation of the PACK AWaRe package, implement the local stakeholder engagement and carry out the intervention in study sites, with the support of the Knowledge Translation Unit (KTU), who have wide experience of this process in other allied disease areas (e.g., Asthma). Including local lead sites (partners) on the implementation process will steer development, test processes, and contribute clinical review of content where needed. It would also ensure the involvement of existing local antimicrobial resistance groups and, where feasible, engage representatives from the Ministry of Health from the outset, which in turn, would support the localisation process and long-term implementation.
